As a therapist, Alex’s priority is facilitating an environment in which clients can heal through coming to know to themselves and their relationships in new ways. She is currently accepting new clients at Cygnus Counseling & Wellness (child clients age 3+ and individual adults, at 77 South 700 East, Suite 200, Salt Lake City, UT 84102) and Park City Psychotherapy (age 18+, couples and individuals, virtual services only). For inquiries or to schedule at either practice, call Alex at (385) 313-9891.
Applying an understanding of the ways in which our earliest relationships shape experiences across the lifespan, Alex’s approach to adult psychotherapy affords clients deep insight into their current symptoms, empowering individuals to reduce inner and interpersonal conflict, increasing freedom and fulfillment. Informed by contemporary psychoanalytic orientations as well as her doctoral training in ethnographic interviewing, Alex provides adult clients unique opportunities to make sense of their lives within a consistent, trusting, professional relationship.
Alex’s child play therapy practice, blending the psychoanalytic Object Relations approach with Child-Centered and Attachment-Based methods, is designed to promote sustainable change rather than short-term emotional deescalation or behavioral compliance. Psychoanalytic play therapy was the first and now longest practiced approach to play therapy, upon which all other child play therapy methods have been built. Recognized as a seminal approach by the Association for Play Therapy, Object Relations play therapy has been used for over a century to treat children experiencing a broad range of psychological, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. Through sandtray, multimodal art-making, dramatic play, and mutual storytelling, children work through experiences that were previously too difficult to verbalize. Alex works closely with parents throughout their child’s treatment to best understand their child and to increase parent- child attunement, strengthening attachment security.
Alex previously provided psychoanalytic and attachment-informed therapy for children and adults at Wasatch Family Therapy, and Child- Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) at A Child’s Place in Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to becoming a therapist, Alex worked directly with children in a wide range of preschools including psychoanalytic, Reggio- Emilia- informed, Montessori, campus- based, church- based, and social & emotional- focused programs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Utah. In addition to applying principles from psychoanalysis to classroom observations and play experiences, Alex treasured opportunities to engage with children using open- ended sustainable materials, Vivian Paley’s storytelling method, tools from scholarship in Embodied Awareness, and her yoga teacher training.
